The Lions make you earn it

When the Bears pick ahead of the Lions and Packers next April you’ll have Cairo Santos to thank. Well, him, and the Justin Fields touchdown pass to the Lions and at least seven mind-numbingly bad penalty calls. It’s really hard to lose to the Lions, especially at home, and it took a Herculean effort, but the Bears were up to the task.

It took a horrible Fields pick six on a botched tight end screen, a dubious hands to the face call on Jaylon Johnson that took away what would have been a game-clinching Jack Sanborn interception and Cairo kicking more turf than ball on his final extra point attempt and shanking it to only put the Bears up by six. The Bears also had to allow points in the fourth quarter to the Lions than they had all season. So that was fun.

The Bears ran all over the Lions with 258 yards. That’s the fifth straight game that they have rushed for more than 225 yards. They’ve won one of them.

And, there’s this:

You know why that says “since 1940?” Because who gives a shit? Pre-1940 football was basically rugby with more deaths.
